Caption

Dibenzalacetone under ultraviolet light. Experiment comparing a supersaturated solution of dibenzalacetone in ethanol (left) with pure ethanol (right). The beakers are lifted up to see if the liquids cast a shadow under ultraviolet (UV) light. The ethanol is transparent to UV light, but the solution of dibenzalacetone casts a shadow. This demonstrates one of the main applications of dibenzalacetone, which is used in sunscreens to block the UV light in sunlight.
