Potentiometers. Assortement of six different potentiometers. Potentiometers are a type of variable resistor. The smaller ones are rotary potentiometers. Turning the shaft, or small slotted knob, varies the resistance to electric current across the metal contacts (small wires). The large one is a linear potentiometer. Moving the slider (black) from one end to the other varies the resistance across its contacts (black and brown knobs). Potentiometers are used in devices such as light dimmers and volume controls.
