Radiotherapy burn. Neck of an 83 year old man with erythema (redness) caused by radiotherapy burns. The radiotherapy was to treat chronic lymphoid leukaemia (CLL), a type of blood cell cancer. In CLL the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs overproduce B lymphocytes and occasionally T lymphocytes, which are each a type of white blood cell. Treatment is with radiation treatment to areas of cancer accumulation (such as the lymph nodes) drugs, immunotherapies and the avoidance of infection.
