Hayward-Rodgers Creek faults earthquake scenario, ground shaking simulation. This simulation shows a map view at left and a perspective view around Napa at right. The simulation shows the predicted effect of an earthquake of moment magnitude 7.2 on both the Hayward Fault and Rodgers Creek Fault (red lines) in California, USA. The epicentre is in San Pablo Bay. The simulation models the maximum peak intensity of ground shaking in the San Francisco Bay and surrounding area, with the colours darkening to red as the shaking intensifies. The shaking spreads as seismic waves radiate away from the rupturing fault lines over a rupture distance of 83 kilometres (Hayward Fault) and 63 kilometres (Rodgers Creek Fault). The colour scale runs from I to IX (scale at top right). This simulation is 75 seconds long.
