Malaria research, Africa. Mosquito being preserved in a vial containing a desiccant (blue), in order to determine if the malaria parasite is present in the salivary glands. Malaria is a severe disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are transmitted to humans by blood-feeding Anopheles mosquitoes. This research is for the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement), a French organisation that funds research in developing countries. Photographed in Tori-Bossito, Benin, in 2007.
