Red Sea coral reef. Coral reefs are extensive and diverse marine ecosystems. Corals are tiny animals that live in colonies. Some form these hard calcium mineral structures, while others are soft and flexible. Different corals form a wide range of shapes. A coral reef provides a home to numerous different marine organisms, such as the lyretail anthias (Pseudanthias squamipinnis) seen here. Other common reef organisms are sponges, starfish, molluscs and crustaceans. Photographed in the Red Sea off Egypt.
