Albert Ghiorso (1915-2010), US nuclear chemist. Ghiorso graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1937. He had studied electrical engineering, but through his work on the Manhattan Project in World War II, his subsequent career was in nuclear physics. He worked with Glenn T. Seaborg on the early cyclotrons, carrying out work that resulted in the discovery of many new heavy elements. Ghirso is credited with the co-discovery of 12 of these new elements. He was awarded the Franklin Institute's Potts Medal in 1969.Restrictions:.
