Pafnuty Lvovich Chebyshev (1821-1894), Russian mathematician and engineer. Chebyshev, who is considered the father of Russian mathematics, is best known for his work in the fields of probability, statistics and number theory. He devised Chebyshev's inequality, and contributed to the Bertrand-Chebyshev theorem.
