Vladimir Iosifovich Veksler (1907-1966), Soviet physicist. Veksler established the principles of modern particle accelerators, and in 1956 became the first director of the Laboratory of High Energy at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), in Dubna, near Moscow. Under his leadership, the largest proton accelerators in the world at the time were built there. His awards include the Lenin Prize (1959) and the USSR State Prize (1963). Photographed in Russia, in 1963.
