DNA repair enzyme complex, illustration. This strand of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid, blue and orange ribbons) is being repaired by an enzyme complex. This is a 6-4 photolyase based complex, found in the Drosophila fruit fly. It takes the form of pyrimidine dimers. As a photolyase, it depends on the capture of blue or ultraviolet (UV) light for its activity, the same radiation that causes DNA damage. The complex includes a FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide) cofactor molecule inside the active centre.
