Ash column rising from Mount Etna, December 2015. Mount Etna, on the Italian island of Sicily, reaches an elevation of over 3300 metres, and it is the largest active volcano in Europe. This ash column has been produced by one of the eruptions that took place between 5 and 7 December 2015.
