Queen Victoria and her family. Group portrait from 1863, showing Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom (1819-1901) and her family, with the Queen (seated at left) wearing black mourning clothes following the death of her husband Prince Albert in December 1861. The dead prince is represented by the bust at centre. The three behind her are (from left): Princess Alice, the Princess of Wales (Alexandra of Denmark), and the Prince of Wales (Albert Edward, later Edward VII). The two children are Princess Beatrice and Prince Leopold. At right are Princess Victoria (seated), Princess Helena, and Prince Louis of Hesse (Alice's husband). The Queen and her youngest daughter are looking at a photograph on her lap. The Prince and Princess of Wales had married on 10 March 1863. This albumen silver print is from a photograph by British photographer John Jabez Edwin Mayall (1813-1901).
