Natural copper crystal. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a naturally grown copper crystal (centre) from the Clara mine in the Black Forest, Germany. In nature, copper usually occurs as a mineral compound, and is rarely seen in crystal form. The total length of the crystal is only about 0.3 millimetres. Magnification: x225 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
