Bean rust (Uromyces sp.) spores, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Bean rust is a fungal disease that infects bean plants. These spores are reproductive structures produced by the fungus to enable it to spread to other plants. It is these spores that give the pustules on the bean plants their characteristic rust colour.
