Caption

Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a longitudinal (sagittal) section through the spine of a patient aged 24 showing a pinched disc between the vertebral bones (T12-L1) in the lumbar region of the spine. This pinching of the soft disc between the spinal bones has been caused by an old injury (fracture) to the anterior part of the T12 vertebral bone and on it a bony growth (osteophyte) has formed.
