REXCOR artificial reef. Divers maintaining the structures used to build the REXCOR artificial reef in the Mediterranean, in the Bay of Cortiou, near Marseille, France. The aim is to restore the health of the marine ecology that has been degraded due to pollution from a major sewage treatment works. The artificial reefs, made of fibreglass and reinforced concrete, act as a suitable substrate for new marine life to develop. This area is part of Calanques National Park. The REXCOR artificial reef project began in 2013, with 36 reefs present by 2017. Photographed in December 2017.
