Caption

Lice grooming, Western New Guinea. Child grooming another child's hair for lice, the bodies and eggs of which are seen in the child's hand at lower left. Lice are insect parasites, several species of which can infest human hosts. Common infestations include those by head lice, feeding on dead skin on the scalp and laying their eggs there. Photographed in Western New Guinea, where this activity is a social and bonding experience.
