Caption

Odontomachus (bear trap) ant head, coloured environmental scanning electron micrograph (ESEM). The compound eyes (blue) are either side of the head. The two antennae (only partially seen) are at upper right. The powerful mandibles (biting mouthparts) are here in their open position, with one at right and the other at left. Ants are social insects that live in colonies that can contain millions of individuals. They are found worldwide in a diverse range of habitats.
