Hale Bopp comet and observatories. These observatories are on the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA. From left to right they are: Subaru Telescope, Keck 1 and Keck 2 telescopes, and NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. Hale Bopp was discovered on 23rd July 1995. It was visible to the naked eye for over 18 months between May 1996 and December 1997.
