Acne conglobata. Lesions and inflammation on the shoulder of a 30-year-old male patient with acne conglobata. This severe form of acne is a highly inflammatory disease that causes clogged hair follicle (comedones), nodules and abscesses, along with draining sinus tracts. Onset is most common between the ages of 18 and 30 and usually persists for a very long time, often until the age of around 40. The cause is unknown but the condition is thought to be associated with testosterone, making it more common in men. It can be brought on through the use of anabolic steroids. Treatment is primarily with isotretinoin.
