Lupus nephritis. Immunofluorescence Iight micrograph of a glomerulus, a filtration structure in the kidney, in a patient with lupus nephritis. Lupus nephritis is an inflammation of the kidneys caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease, in which antibodies attack the body's own tissues. Symptoms of lupus nephritis include, fever, oedema, high blood pressure, pain and rash. Treatment is with drugs, including corticosteroids.
