Colonial rotifers and hydra tentacle, polarized light micrograph. These are Conochilus rotifers. Rotifers are microscopic aquatic animals that are related to roundworms. Hydra are small simple predatory fresh-water animals. They catch prey using stinging and adhesive cells on their tentacles. Dark field illumination. Magnification: x40 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
