Glue ear, otoscope view. Glue ear is a chronic case of otitis media (middle ear infection) in which an accumulation of fluid in the middle ear causes hearing loss. This view shows the membrane of the tympanic membrane (eardrum) retracted in a case of glue ear in a child. The membrane is dull and there are multiple small blood vessels in the membrane which is not inflamed.
