Barotrauma inside the ear, otoscope view. Barotrauma is an injury caused by a change in air pressure. This condition has been caused by descent during air travel, resulting in severe ear pain and problems equalizing the differential between the low middle ear pressure and the rising cabin pressure in the aircraft. There is visible bruising in the deep part of the ear canal. Other symptoms include fluid discharge into the middle ear, and even bleeding.
