Viral papilloma of the ear canal, otoscope view. Also known as warts, these growths are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), of which there are over 30 types. Here, the papilloma is a firm swelling at the entrance to the ear canal, and grows relentlessly. Treatment is by excision and the application of silver nitrate.
