Caption

Leg bones and joints. Illustration of an oblique view of the bones and joints of a human leg. At the hip the femur (thigh bone) articulates with the innominate bone of the pelvis. The femur articulates with the tibia (shin bone) and patella (knee cap) at the knee. The other lower leg bone is the fibula (thinner, at left of tibia). In both the hip and knee, the ends of the bones are shown covered in articular cartilage (a form of hyaline cartilage).
