Olfactory epithelium. Illustration of a section through the cell layers of the olfactory epithelium, the specialized epithelial tissue found inside the nasal cavity. The nasal surface is at top, with mucus secreted by Bowman's glands (one at right, blue). At centre and left are two olfactory neurons (bipolar nerve cells), with nerve connections trailing away to lower left. The other cells are supporting cells and basal cells.
