Acacia leaf surface, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This view shows waxy deposits on the surface of the leaf. Acacia belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae). There are around 1400 species worldwide, with 950 of them occurring in Australia. They are mostly evergreen shrubs. Magnification: x1000 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
