Azithromycin antibiotic drug pills. Four 250 mg caplets of the antibiotic drug azithromycin. This drug is a macrolide antibiotic, and is most often used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract such as tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia. It was developed in the 1980s at the Croatian pharmaceutical company Pliva, and is now marketed under a wide variety of brand names worldwide. These pills are a generic form of the drug.
