Botox injection. Patient having botox injected into their forehead. Botox is a neurotoxin used for cosmetic purposes and also to treat some muscle disorders. The toxin is obtained from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. This bacterium causes botulism, a form of bacterial food poisoning. Small, safe amounts of botox are injected into facial muscles, paralysing the muscles and smoothing wrinkles. One treatment can last for between three to six months.
