Lava fountain during Kilauea eruption, 1959. This lava fountain is erupting during the fifteenth phase of activity in Kilauea Iki Crater. The lava fountain is 580 metres tall. Kilauea is the most active of the volcanoes on Hawaii. Photographed by US volcanologist Donald H. Richter on 17 December 1959.
