Human foot and ankle. Lateral X-ray of the bones of the foot and ankle of a 17-year-old girl. She is in a load-bearing standing position on a flat surface. The ankle joint (centre) is where the tibia and fibula bones (of the lower leg) articulate with the talus bone of the foot. The prominent bone at the rear of the foot (lower right) is the calcaneus (heel bone). The other bones are those of the mid-foot.
