Chromatoid body (dark), transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Chromatoid bodies are dense structures located in the spermatid cytoplasm that are needed for spermatogenesis. They are composed mainly of RNAs (ribonucleic acids) and RNA-binding proteins and thus are a type of ribonucleoprotein (RNP) granule.
