Sodium, chlorine and sodium chloride. Sodium (Na) is very reactive metal and is typically stored in mineral oil. Chlorine (Cl2) is a very reactive gas, shown here in a sealed glass ampoule. Sodium chloride (NaCl) is common table salt. Chemical compound sodium chloride has very different physical and chemical properties from its constituents (sodium and chlorine) in their elemental form.
