Ethanoic acid. Computer model of a molecule of ethanoic acid (C2.H5.O2). The atoms (tubes) are colour-coded: carbon (white), hydrogen (green) and oxygen (blue). This is a clear viscous liquid that is also known as acetic acid and is a component of vinegar. It is used in the production of plastics, and also as a preservative.
