Phytoplankton bloom (light blue) in the Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Ireland, satellite image. Water is blue, vegetation is green and cloud cover is white. Phytoplankton are photosynthetic microscopic algae. This image was acquired on 23 May 2010 at a resolution of 300 metres by the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) instrument on the Envisat satellite.
