Caption

Tendon fibres. Coloured freeze-fracture scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of tendon fibres. These fibres are made from collagen. The parallel alignment of the fibres make tendons inelastic but flexible. Tendons attach muscle to bone. Magnification: x2000 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
