Lasers utilize the natural oscillation of atoms for amplifing or generating electromagnetic waves in the region of the spectrum from the ultraviolet to the infrared. This laser is used to created excited atoms within the atomic beam in order to study their collision with electrons. The color of the laser beams changes as is directed by mirrors, lenses and sometimes filters.
