While extracts from exotic plants may thwart whiteflies in the future, other remedies may be right in your kitchen. Researchers in Arizona found that a mix of common liquid dish washing detergent and cooking oil kills sweet potato whiteflies, as well as several common home garden pests. At test plots in Maricopa, a technician and her aide spray a cotton field with a fine mist of vegetable oil and dish washing detergent.
