Kenyan archaeologist and anthropologist Dr. Louis Leakey (1903-1972) explaining the stratigraphy in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, Africa. Lemagrut Mountain, over 10,000 feet high, can be seen in the background. Leakey helped to establish the field of paleoanthropology, which is the study of fossil hominds. He was married to British anthropologist and archaeologist Mary Leakey (1913-1996).
