Phenylamine reactions. The test tube at left, shows that phenylamine (brown) is not soluble in water. At centre the phenylamine is dissolved in a dilute acid. At right, alkali is being added to the phenylamine-acid solution and forming a white emulsion as the phenylamine precipitates out from the solution. Phenylamine, also known as aniline or aminobenzene, is used in the dye and pharmaceutical industries.
