The central image of the solar disk (at 304 angstroms) is from the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope of ESA/NASA's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). The background image is from SOHO's coronagraph, showing a coronal mass ejection (CME) being ejected into space. This image was the winning entry in a contest held to mark the 20th anniversary of SOHO. Image obtained on 8 January 2002.
