Scene from Persian epic poem Shahnameh, 16th century. This scene shows legendary Iranain prince Siyavush (on black horse, centre left) playing polo before the Turanian emperor Afrasiyab (upper right). This is an illustration for 'The Book of Kings' or the 'Shahnameh', an epic 10th-century poem by Persian poet Ferdowsi. This 16th-century folio painting from an illustrated manuscript is attributed to the artist Qasim ibn 'Ali, and was produced in Tabriz in Iran in around 1525-1530.
