Oracle bone fragment from China, 2nd millennium BC. This inscribed bone object was placed in a fire until it cracked, with the cracks used to foretell the future. This oracle bone dates from the Shang dynasty of China (around 1600 to 1046 BC). It measures 10 by 17 centimetres. This object is part of the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, USA.
