Australian pioneer camp, 19th-century illustration. The first European colonies in Australia were established at the end of the 18th century. Some people lived as pioneers and bushrangers in isolated huts and settlements. By the end of the 19th century, there was a move towards federalism, with the Commonwealth of Australia established in 1901. Artwork published in 1889.
