Archaeornithes reptile-like bird fossil. The Archaeornithes are an extinct group of the first primitive, reptile-like birds. They are an evolutionary transition between the non-avian dinosaurs and modern birds (the avian dinosaurs). This specimen dates from the Upper Cretaceous (100 million years ago to 66 million years ago).
