Caption

A large and distinctive caterpillar like larva of the club horned sawfly (Abia sericea). This species prefers damp meadow habitats across Europe where the larvae feed on devil's bit scabious. Adults can be seen from May whereas the larvae are usually from June to September. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in September.
