Elm stem (Ulmus procera) section, polarised light micrograph. The black vertical lines are multiseriate rays, which are composed of several rows of cells. The horizontal bands comprised of clusters of very small cells (predominately light blue) are woody fibres, which support the stem. Magnification: x100 when printed 10 centimetres high.
