Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) swimming over a reef in Palau, in the Pacific Ocean. This turtle is found throughout the tropical and subtropical waters of the world's oceans. It can also found in temperate waters, but prefers coral reef environments, where it feeds primarily on sponges . It is critically endangered, having been hunted for their meat and shells, and having their nesting beaches destroyed by human development.
