This sagittal (from the side) T1 weighted MR image of the spine demonstrates extensive metastatic disease to the bony structures which are the multiple darker regions of the spine replacing normal fatty rich marrow (which can be seen in the midthoracic region). Metastatic disease is the spread of cancer from a distant primary cancer such as lung or breast.
